Plan a Stylized Trash-the-Dress or Day After shoot! ~ Destination Dallas Wedding ~

A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of shooting Jan and Beth’s wedding day. I was thrilled to meet this couple once I got to Texas, but only had conversations over the phone and emails until the week of the wedding. I knew a little about this happy couple and had seen a few images of the wedding venue and that was it. I have never explored the Dallas/Fort Worth area before, so this was really an adventure!! I was ready for new places and faces, but ran into a little snag when Beth and I talked a little more about the wedding plans. Jan and Beth wanted to wait to see each other until Beth came down the isle, that’s ok. Totally cool!! ..Except the wedding was at night. When I heard this, my heart sank. HOW was I going to get awesomely awesome images from this Destination Wedding if I only got to shoot the couple at night? I wanted to get killer shots just as badly as my beautiful couple, so I insisted we schedule a Trash-the-Dress session the Day After. Beth and Jan were SO excited about this idea and jumped at the opportunity. I mean, HELLO!? It was the perfect fix. SO perfect, I’ve decided ALL of my Destination Weddings need to include a Bonus Shoot to take advantage of my time while at our destination!!

I simply adore this couple. They have it all. Style. Humor. Love. The wedding day was perfect, with Damask and Turquoise accents {seriously, my favorite}, details galore and a crazy Photo Fun Booth. By the end of the night, I felt like part of the family and didn’t want the event to end! But I knew the next day we would get to have a blast running around town shooting our Trash-the-Dress shoot. We had a little photo-scavenger hunt, looking for fun places to pose and the laughter never ended! Beth and Jan were SO happy and excited to be married, it really made photographing the way they felt about each other a breeze. There were no restrictions. We got all the couple shots we couldn’t get on the wedding night, PLUS more! By the end of our photo-feild-trip, we headed back to the hotel that Beth and Jan were staying at and they decided to end the shoot with Trashing-the-Dress in the rooftop pool. Now that’s what I’m talkin’ bout! Perfection.

I’d love to do a Day-After shoot or even a Trash-the-Dress session for all of my couples if I had the choice! The possibilities are just endless!! Together, we can get those images that seem impossible to do on a typical wedding day…we just gotta make it happen! To really make your bridal session over the top, I recommend having a your wedding planner or shoot stylist like Lindeman Weddings and Events be a part of the shoot and help to “stylize” the look of our shoot & really give it that bridal magazine “look”. Hair and make-up are also key to helping you look your best, so consider scheduling your personal stylist for the next day!! Beth just woke up with all that natural beauty and we just used the style of the city, we didn’t have a stylist for our Dallas wedding, but could you imagine if we had!!??

This month, Keith and I got to go to our favorite photographers convention in Las Vegas. We really just needed to refresh and renew our creative MOXY along with our motivation for the business! I thought Keith would be benefiting most from this trip, being newer to the game. But I was wrong! I learned so much about myself and the new tools out there to help me stay on the right track! Here are a few of my favorite lessons learned in Vegas:

#1 I really need time away and time off with my husband. Working alongside my man is a blessing, oh yes, we get to spend a lot of time together. But even though we get to shoot together, edit together, raise our children together…we can sort of forget to take time off and just BE together!! Between our intensive seminars, we found creative inspiration and learned ways to work better together with a little priceless US time.

#2 We both learned to take risks. Try new things, learn new tricks. Do something that stretches you and pushes you to new levels. Keith has been my assistant photographer and editor for a few years now, and has been trying new things with video and montage clips! We are having a lot of fun with these!!

#3 Remember why you do everything. Is it worth it? I always want my answer to be yes. I love my job and the life I live as a photographer. But when it comes down to it, everything I do is for my family. It’s for my three daughters and the love of my life. I work hard so I can enjoy a wonderful life with my family. The past couple of years have been overwhelming as the business has been blessed, but I’m learning to value my time just as I value your memories!!

#4 It’s OK to be sexy! While learning techniques on posing in Vegas all day, I was also getting dressed for dinner and dancing at night! I got to get dressed up and remember how fun it was to be sexy again!! As a working woman & busy mom, I can forget when I spend my third consecutive day in sweats and a ponytail editing in the office. One of the nights in Vegas, Nigel Barker {of America’s Next Top Model} taught us a few fashion photography tricks and hosted a fashion show. I learned about ways to get your models or brides to feel a little sexier, too!! Because that’s what we all want, right? To feel HOT in our photos!!?? Well, I want to give that to you and remind you to keep it spicy!!

#5 What happens in Vegas, shouldn’t always stay in Vegas. This year I am taking home a partner on fire for photography, some much needed inspiration, and a renewed sense of vision. I want to give my best to all my clients, to my entire family and my fabulous friends. I am returning home with stronger passion, greater balance and broader perspective. Everything else, can stay in Vegas…

Griffin Layne ~ Nashville Recording Artist ~ Recording Session

I recently got to travel to Nashville for my first time ever, to photograph Griffin Layne recording his latest work in Music City!! It was awesome to watch how the magic was made at the studio with all of the amazing talent that goes in to putting a recording together. I clicked my heals and bought me some boots! We visited The King’s Home in Graceland and ate nothing but the BEST BBQ for 5 straight days! I loved it. Here’s a little peek into the recording with Griffin Layne! I really enjoyed visiting Nashville, and the loooong road trip to Graceland. This was one of the rare instances I got to sit in the back, kick my boots up and look out the window to enjoy the view of the South. I even got a nap! We didn’t get to spend much time in Graceland at Elvis’ home since it was closing shortly after we arrived. I did, however, have just enough time to meet this fine gentleman impersonator and pose for a picture….while he humped my leg. Hmmm. You never know who you’re going to meet, or who’s going to hump your leg when you’re shooting in far-off places like Tennessee! Another day, another adventure!!

At our most recent destination wedding in Maui, Keith and I were just amazed by the beautiful views! We took the road to Hana for some sight seeing and explored all kinds of jungles and beaches! I know all the places I want to shoot next time I am there

I just love being near the ocean. Being a native southern Californian may have something to do with it, but I just love the beach. It’s just so romantic and calming…unless you gonna shred some waves, then it’s exciteing

We stayed at The Royal Lahaina, and really liked it for the price! The beach there was terrific, right next to Black Rock {we did plenty of snorkeling!}. Some of the bonus shoots we did for this destination wedding included Gentlemen’s Golf Day, the Ladies Luncheon, and the Welcome Dinner…but you could also have a romantic engagement session on the beach {this is where we get creative!}! This wedding had over 60 guests fly out to Maui for the wedding!!

When Keith and I got married at Sandals in Montego Bay, we didn’t tell anyone We did, however, come home and have a wedding ceremony/reception with our friends and family {and hey, I got two dresses out of it!!}. Destination Weddings are so unique and romantic, they just make me squeel with excitement! Keith and I just love traveling to exciting places to capture unique stories of true love. I recently had the opportunity to photograph this beautiful couple. They got married in Maui, and had the full-on southern traditional wedding events….a welcome dinner, ladies luncheon, gentlemen’s gof, and of course a perfect wedding on the beach. It was “perfect”. I have watched this couple together for a long time now, and it was my pure honor to be there as the photographer. These two have excellent taste in everything from art to friends.

I just got back from LA shooting a family photo event, and two of my favorite models! Erica and Griffin are such a beautiful couple, and needed some updated shots for their careers {she is a fit model, he is a recording artist} so I just had to share some shots of my beautiful friends I had a lot of fun with these two, shooting in the fabulous Laguna Beach and Santa Monica. Ok, so I have not had time to Blog as much as I love to with all of the work I have had lately. There are TONS of weddings and shoots from this Summer and Fall that I simply must share! I will have to post a few catch-up Blogs Starting with my most recent adventures in Southern California…I had a number of shoots scheduled while I was in Los Angeles and got some really great shots in places like Santa Monica, Malibu, Redondo Beach, Pasadena and the Angels Stadium of Aneheim! I am a Los Angeles native, so this was a blast for me to tour around and visit all of my old stomping grounds I LOVE visiting my home state, and will be returning shortly to do more shoots and make more memories. I just had to share some of the work I did while shooting in LA. Ah, the fruits of my labor…

Griffin is an up and coming recording artist in L.A. who had me do some shots for his press packet. Needless to say, this was a super fun shoot.

Erica is one of my longest, dearest friends from PV Peninsula High School. I got excited at the chance to photograph my beautiful friend! We are still close after all these years and we always have a fun time with our photoshoots when we get together. Isn’t she stunning!?

I also did some romantic shots of this beautiful couple on the beach in Malibu!

While I was in Malibu, I also shot the adorable Barton family! I LOVE these classic beach family photos {with “Trala” flair!}

One of my other favorite destination shoots while in California was at the Los Angeles Angels Stadium! What a treat this was for me to get to photograph this beautiful family in such an awesome place! I have to thank the von Duering family for being such Angels fans and for bringing me along on their tour of the stadium! {You, too, can have your very own personal paparazzi!}

Little Alexis also posed for me while I was in the area. I visited her home in Redondo Beach and was immediately captivated by those baby blues! What a doll! Alexis was so sweet and bright eyed, perfect for her first photoshoot!! No trip is too far for a baby’s first photo session

I did get to have a little “me” time on this trip and had some great times with old friends at great restaurants, trips to the spa, the beach and just driving around alone with the music blasting and windows down…a real treat for this busy momma of three! I brought the family down for a trip to Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm earlier this summer, so I didn’t feel bad enjoying myself one bit {ok, maybe I felt alittle bad after that shoot with all the half-naked guys…I really enjoyed that! lol}.

Red Rock, NV

I got to take a trip to Las Vegas for my birthday this year and one of my many adventures included hiking at Red Rock with some of my best friends.

I got to shoot some fine art photos of my models in the canyons and the pictures came out beautifully!

I could hardly put down my camera to free mey hands for mountain climbing,

but I managed to climb a few mountains:)

I had a great time soaking in the sun and the sights. Wonderful memories and images!
